ChronoCity – beyond urban planning

ChronoCity – beyond urban planning

ChronoCity - beyond urban planning

Designing environments in respect of human nature.

At IDAMAR, we believe the future of development requires a fundamental shift.

For decades, cities, tourism destinations and residential developments have been designed around infrastructure and economic efficiency.

But one essential factor has been largely ignored:

Human biology.

ChronoCity embodies our vision of creating living spaces that are aligned with people’s natural rhythms and biological needs, always based on scientific evidence.

The Situation

Modern environments often work against human physiology. Artificial light exposure, disrupted sleep cycles, environmental stress and poorly designed living structures increasingly affect not only human health, but also resilience and performance worldwide. Most urban planning has never considered these biological realities.

Yet human biology remains unchanged.

The ChronoCity Initiative

ChronoCity is a term, that was created in 2012 by Michael Wieden, who initiated the first ChronoCity project in Bad Kissingen, Germany. It integrates scientific principles from Chronobiology into urban development.

This includes designing environments that support:

  • healthy sleep cycles
  • natural light exposure
  • biological recovery
  • sustainable daily activity rhythms
  • reduced environmental stress
  • long-term human well-being

The built environment should work with human biology — not against it.

Beyond buildings

ChronoCity is not limited to architecture.

Its principles apply to:

  • urban planning
  • tourism destinations
  • resort development
  • residential communities
  • large-scale territorial development
  • future-oriented investment projects

At IDAMAR, we believe development must move beyond buildings and begin shaping human-centered environments.

Expertise & International Network

Scientific credibility is essential. Our ChronoCity philosophy is built upon extensive expertise in human biological science, sleep research and chronobiological systems, since 2002.

This expertise is strengthened through active engagement with international organizations and initiatives focused on the relationship between time, human behavior and sustainable development, including organizations such as Time Use Initiative.

Why This Matters

The future of development is changing. Tomorrow’s most valuable environments will not simply be beautiful or sustainable, they will be environments designed around the fundamental biological needs of human beings.

At IDAMAR, we believe this future begins right now.

„Human biology as a new design principle for future civilization.“
